Will access to properties on North Park Street be restricted? Are roundabouts within the city centre unsafe?

In response to a question posted by DWL on Feb 1st:

Thank you for taking the time to review the project plans. The new geometry of the intersection will result to changes in area parking. The majority of the work is at the intersections and those areas will see the most change. Along North Park Street from Cornwallis to Cogswell there will be a net increase of 7 daytime and two evening parking spaces.

You are correct that intersection design evolves over time. Modern roundabouts are a modern version of rotaries with two significant differences, at a roundabout we yield to vehicles already in the circle and the geometry is much tighter which reduces speeds and is therefore safer for pedestrians. Cyclists have the option to walk their bikes around the roundabout if they are less confident, or cycle through taking the main lane before the pedestrian crossing. This project will also upgrade the Active Transportation trail in the Common for all users.
